Flower days: aromatic and lifted

A flower day falls when the Moon is in an air constellation: Gemini, Libra or Aquarius. Growers time work on flowering plants for these days. For wine they are the second-best day type, especially for fragrant styles.

How wine tastes on a flower day

Flower days are said to lift aromatics. Whites, rosés and sparkling wines can seem especially perfumed and expressive, while big reds may feel a little lighter than on a fruit day.

What to open

Flower days in the vineyard

Flower days are used for work around the vine's flowering and for anything grown for its blossom. The idea comes from biodynamic farming, which links each of the four classical elements to one part of the plant: fire to fruit, air to flower, water to leaf and earth to root.

Because the constellations are different sizes, flower days don't come in neat blocks. The Moon returns to the same element roughly every nine days. How the calendar is calculated.
